Thirteen singers went at it at the Windy City Gay Idol finals, held June 13 at Circuit, 3641 N. Halsted—and when the smoke cleared, Cori Calderon ( top photo ) defeated the other finalists, Marla Depew and Antonio King, and became the newest champion. Calderon won more than $5,000 in cash and prizes, including a pair of American Airlines tickets, $1,000, a Bud Light mountain bike, a trip to Toronto and a Broadway in Chicago subscription. Among the event's other highlights were performances by dance-music artist Lady Gaga as well as the last three Gay Idol winners—Kerry Grant, Christy Fairbairn and Dan Kerry. Deb Pearce of Toronto's 1039 PROUD FM and Heidi Wilson of Tourism Toronto also were on hand to help host Amy Matheny. DJ Dragonfire, Sofia Saffire, Stephen Rader and Kirk Williamson served as judges.
