The Illinois Safe Schools Alliance held its 14th annual Day of Silence/Night of Noise April 16. Students from all over the state used this day to raise awareness about the silencing of LGBTQ voices, as well as those of their allies. ( This year's National Day of Silence will take place April 25, and will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a 15-year-old California student who was allegedly killed in school by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. )
The Night of Noise rally took place in front of the State of Illinois Building as hundreds of students and allies attended. There were various speakers and performers at the event. Photos by Bahar Partow
