Chicago, IL, April 26, 2018 — Two nonbinary community members are facilitating a support group for anybody 18+ who identities as nonbinary and is interested in attending a two-hour meeting every Wednesday for 10 weeks. The group will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at 1147 S Wabash. Facilitators are asking for a $10 suggested donation to pay for snacks if group members are able.
The group is for nonbinary folks who want to engage in a group dynamic for sharing their gender experiences, discuss successes and difficulties, and share resources with other nonbinary folks. During the first meeting group members will decide what topics are valuable to their current life circumstances.
Previous group members have stated appreciation for the conversation, connection, and newfound sense of community after leaving the group. A past group member said, "I expected to share experiences and tips for things like how to address people who misgender me or refuse to use my pronouns, but I didn't realize how powerful it'd be just to share space with the beautiful spectrum of nonbinary people who were part of this pilot group."
This is the second nonbinary group that Mare Fanslow ( they/them ) and Jes Scheinpflug ( they/them ) will co-facilitate together. The first group ran for eight weeks from January to March in the Uptown neighborhood, and almost evaluation form said they wished it was longer. In April, co-facilitators released an online poll to gauge interest in the group, preferred location, member composition, and topics that received over 40 submissions.
Facilitators are grateful to the new & innovative LGBTQ app & platform, Community A, for donating the space.
Applications are due May 15.
