LGBTQ+ party organization Slo 'Mo: Slow Jams for Queer Fam is celebrating its 10th anniversary with "Slo 'Mo Presents: I'm Every Woman: Divas Through the Decades with Akenya & Friends" on Monday, Aug. 2, at Millennium Park's Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the show starting at 6 p.m.
The free, all-ages tribute to queer pride anthems will be under the direction of queer musician Akenya. Akenyaa composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalisthas assembled a 10-piece band and guest vocalists for a proper tribute to diva greats like Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Janet Jackson, Cher, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and more for the headlining show.
The event will kick off the return of the Millennium Park Summer Concert Series' and will span hits from the '70s to today and from Diana Ross to Robyn. R&B and folk influenced couple/duo Mermaid and DJ VITIGRRL will open.
Also, Slo 'Mo is seeking submissions from the public for a special video montage dedicated to all the milestones during that pandemic that didn't receive a public celebration, such as births, deaths, marriages, graduations and more. Those who'd like to have a memory shared on the screen at Millennium Park can fill out the form available at docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfxiVFwiKbxFfRAxrDhSf2n-IV8pgL_VMVmmHAuDweaL5SftA/viewform for submission.
