In what is being advertised as her last concert in Chicago, LGBTQ singer Janis Ian will be performing at the Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave. on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 8 p.m.
Tickets ($48-$50) will be available for members Wed., Oct. 13, and to the general public Friday, Oct. 15.
Ian's signature songs are the 1960s hit "Society's Child (Baby I've Been Thinking)" and the 1975 Top Ten single "At Seventeen." She penned and recorded "Society's Child"about an interracial romanceat age 14.
She came out as a lesbian in the 1990s after meeting Patricia Snyder; they married in 2003.
Ian has won two Grammys: in 1975 for "At Seventeen" and in 2013 for Best Spoken Word Album, for her autobiography, Society's Child. In 2016, she received her most recent Grammy nomination for the self-produced Patience & Sarah, an audiobook she produced and co-narrated with actress Jean Smart (Designing Women; Watchmen; Hacks).
Also, her most recent album, Hopea collection of 12 pieces from her archives, ranging from 1976 to 2011is now available digitally.
