On Thursday, June 9, 1-2:30 p.m. CT, the NIH Sexual & Gender Minority Research Office will host a special Pride edition of the Scientific Webinar Series to spotlight the recently released National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) report on Measuring Sex, Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation, per a press release.
During this webinar, invited speakers from the authoring NASEM Consensus Study Panel will provide an overview of the development, scope and recommendations of the report.
This report, commissioned by 19 components of the NIH, was developed by a multidisciplinary team of experts and reviews the current evidence base on measurement and data collection related to SGM populations. The report outlines guidelines, recommendations, and best practices for collecting sexual orientation and gender identity information in research and non-research surveys, along with medical and other administrative records, in order to improve the NIH's ability to identify and address the specific needs of these populations.
